Washington D.C
Washington D.C. was a very fun and historical place to go. Our campsite was in Virginia, so to get to D.C we had to drive 10 - 15 minutes to get to the Metro station, then get on the Metro and wait for our stop. In the end our travel time took about 30 - 45 minutes. The Metro rides were fun because I was standing up and it bumped and stopped quickly and made it feel like a roller coaster!
This is a picture of a sign in a museum.
The first place we went was a Smithsonian. We went to the National Museum of American History. We saw the original Star Spangled Banner, the First Ladies' dresses and a cannon boat called the Philadelphia.
This is a picture of the original Star Spangled Banner from off the Internet (they wouldn't let us take pictures). The flag is ripped and torn in some spots because people cut the flag for souvenirs. Seeing the flag was amazing to me because it was so old and made of fabric it seemed like it couldn't exist. In the flag room there was an annoying lady yelling and telling everyone, "Please do not take pictures! There is a sign outside that is not hard to miss." The lady seemed to be drawing attention to herself rather than letting people enjoy seeing the flag.
It was built in 1776 and sunk in 1776 for the Revolutionary War. The builders of the Smithsonian building had to have boat brought in then they had to build the building around it. I thought the boat looked like it would crumble to dust if you touched it because it was so old and it was under water for like a hundred years
This trailer only had one bed for four people. I think that would be very crowded and disturbing.
Then we headed home. Well to the trailer of course ;). The next day we went straight to the Lincon Memorial. That thing was huge! Except it had a tiny gift shop. Here it is. :)
We then went to the White House. They weren't giving any tours and you had to stand way behind these bars. Here is a picture of me in front of the White House. Here is a picture of the White House alone.
When we were at the White House Visitor Center, the Secret Service told everybody to leave the park. We didn't know why.
Next, we went to the Spy Museum and walked around learning about different spies, tools they use, and ways they get from place to place without being noticed. The museum was fun because in some places you got to act like a spy!
That evening we went to dinner with Brett, Mary and their two girls. Brett is a family friend of my mom's. Mary is Brett's wife. That was fun and yummy!
That's all for Washington D.C!
Next stop Martinsburg, West Virginia and Niagara Falls in New York!
